In the community of Musetesti there are six villages and one of them is also called Musetesti where we are hosted. Musetesti is a nice village with a wonderful view to the mountains and with a very beautiful nature. It's a village with only one road, it is a very long road and you can never mix the way! The village >>> was 1558 founded by a man called Musat >>> has 2504 inhabitants (302 workers, 504 retirees, 680 children, teenager (18-30) 665 and 1159 adults) >>> has a brotherhood with a danish town >>> has the title of a european village (handeded over 2005) Musetesti is the heart of the community, because here is the primary located as well as the police station, a doctor and a pharmacie. Moreover you can find here 2 shops, a cafe-bar and a disco. You can reach the next cities by bus within 20 till 50 minutes. You have direct connections to Sadu, Targu Tui and Novaci. Musetesti has an orthodox church and a babtist church. The rural arear is very different than a city. You can be sure many children and adults have not traveled much around and seeing a foreign person is something very intresting for them. But the people are very hostable and friendly. Most of them still produce their own vegtables and have animals at home. That means the agriculture is very important here.Sadu and Targu Jiu are the cities where most of the people work but many young people have to go for work several month abroad, because they can not find work here. Normally the pupils leave their homes when they are 16 years old, because they go to high schools in Targu Jui or Sadu. Here in Musetesti is a primary school like in every little village but apart it also includes the classes 5-8, with nearly 200 pupils and 12 teachers . In the same building is also a kindergarden with 15 children. At school they have a football and handball team, moreover there is an informatic room, a new sport gym, and the office for volunteers with 2 computers. Authors: Vika and Vero |

HISTORY AND CULTURE
Targu Carbunesti received the status of a city in the year 1968. The very first time it was documented in the 15 th century, first with the name Gilort’s Fair (Gilort is a river near the city), then Bengai Fair and after that as Petrestii from Above. There are some historical sites in the community such as old wooden churches from 17 th and 18 th centuries, a monastery and a settlement from the Neolithic age. In the city there is also a museum of Tudor Arghezi, a famous Romanian author. DESCRIPTION OF THE CITY Targu Carbunesti is situated about 25km from Targu Jiu which is the capital of Gorj county. . There are about 10,000 inhabitants in the community, including a gipsy minority of round 1000 people. About half of the people live in the urban area and the rest in the villages nearby. There are 9 villages nearby the town; Blahnita, Carbunesti Village, Cojani, Cretesti, Floresteni, Curteana, Macescu, Pojogeni and Stefanesti. In the city you can find all the basic things such as library, public internet point (open Monday-Friday from 4pm to 10pm and on Saturday from 9am to 7pm), shops, hospital, church and a cultural house. There is also a hotel and a few restaurants as well as a pub and a disco. The people in the city are nice and helpful, but only a few of them speaks English or other foreign languages, except French. A little bit outside of the city there is a monastery. Near the city runs the river Gilort, and especially in the spring and in the summer the area nearby the river is very nice. There are two schools in the city, Primary school which has classes from 1 to 8 and the High school/College (classes 8 to 12) of 550 students called Tudor Arghezi. Both of the schools have a positive attitude towards volunteers and the teachers as well as the students are interested in doing different activities. There is a house of disabled where the disabled people can learn an occupation and an orphans house for homeless children where is going on a long term voluntary project by some English volunteers. Dancing is a popular hobby among the children and teenagers, there are several dancing active groups for folk dances and modern dances and a lot of children take part in these. Other popular activities are football and handball. There is a good connection from Targu Carbunesti to Targu Jiu. Buses go between the cities every half an hour during the week from 7am until 8pm and about once per hour during the weekends. There is also train connection. Some bad points, there are not many activities to do or places to go for the young people, so the city is somewhat of a quiet place during the evenings and weekends. And there are lots of dogs in the streets. The most of the dogs are not dangerous, but some of them might be aggressive so it is better to be careful especially when you are walking alone. Bine ati venit in Bustuchin! Don’t let your first impression of Bustuchin, a commune situated in the countryside 70 km from Targu Jiu in the Gorj area, fool you. The small center consisting of a city hall, a High School, a tiny store, a bar and some other official instances is just an exterior that hides a dynamic and warmhearted community. Bustuchin is actually a rather big commune with 3860 habitants spread in 8 villages: Bustuchin, satul resedinta Cionti, Motorgi, Namete, Poiana Seciuri, Poienita, Pojaru and Valea Pojarului. Wow. Petrom, the one and only big Petrol Company in Romania is also situated in Bustuchin. As you see this commune is famous place! In the very heart of Bustuchin you find the important building Papi, the dad that attracts all the young and old kids with computers and a library. In Papi lives the mayor and many other important persons. The most important of them in our opinion is still doamna Lilika, an angel who provides the spoiled volunteers with clean clothes and internet access in the evenings. Go Lilika! Next to daddy is a small post office with a small nice woman. The policemen in Bustuchin are also very nice, or is this just because we never had anything to do with them? Nxt to our house that we share with the teachers, is a High School with both lovely and less lovely kids and teenagers. Oh yeah. If you feel like it you can walk some kilometers to Poiana, a village nearby with a Primary School and a director that bites only a little. Some of the habitants in Bustuchin bark and make strange screaming noises, the second ones especially in the morning. But not to be afraid, they are as friendly and open minded as any bustuchinian. All in all we like Bustuchin. But you have to experience it yourself to feel it!
